Venice is divided in six boroughs called “sestieri” they are Dorsoduro, Santa Croce, San Polo, SanMarco, Cannareggio, and Castello, spread on 118 very small islands, connected by 354 bridges canals and small stream.

St Mark:

The transient phenomenom of high-tide is frequent in the Fall season, flooding squares and streets, making difficoltous to go around, but Venetians promptly organize foot-bridges making walking easer.
To measure high-tide, electronic instruments are based, on the level the tide reaches in height, St. Maria della salute, and other strategic points in the City. This system advises people of the incoming high-tide with electric sirens.
